Steel weight: 113.3 t
90% bolted connections

The first phase of this project involved developing a detailed steel model from a fully provided IFC model, which defined the overall structure and layout.

Our task was to adapt the client’s standard connection concepts to the specific situations present in the model. In many cases, custom connections were required, as standard Tekla components could not be applied due to the geometry or configuration of the structural elements.

Creating this detailed model took 20 working days for 2 people to complete, highlighting the level of effort and precision involved.

Adapting Standard Connections

The client’s standard connection solutions needed to be adjusted to match the actual conditions in the model. Each custom connection was developed to ensure structural integrity while remaining practical for fabrication and assembly.

Efficient Workflow with Custom Connections

To allow for flexibility and potential later design changes, the custom connections were designed to be easily modified. This approach streamlined the workflow and reduced repetitive remodeling during the project.

Bolted Connections

A key requirement from the client was that the majority of the structure use bolted connections. Over 90% of all connections were bolted, facilitating easier on-site assembly and simplifying installation and maintenance.

Coordination with the Client

Some of the more complex nodes required close communication with the client to resolve specific connection challenges. This ensured the model could continue to evolve and incorporate additional elements such as stairs, handrails, and platform components.

Challenging Elements: Handrails and Grating

The handrails and grating systems were particularly demanding due to the dense layout of machinery planned for the platform. These elements had to be carefully coordinated to fit within the structure while ensuring safety and accessibility.
